Our team

The founding members decided that the village banking model created and piloted by
Wezi Ximiya had more potential than was recognised by certain private and public
entities. Sakhu Co-Op Ltd was started with seed capital from its founding members to
explore the full potential of the original model. It was one of the prize winners at the
World Bank’s Development Marketplace competition in Washington, D.C. in 2000, for
its presentation entitled “Leveraging local savings for local development”. In 2018,
Sakhu still stands for inclusive wealth creation for its community members as part of
larger corporate business.
